# Identity Verification (KYC)

> Why QR Pay verifies your identity, why a new device asks again, and what we check on every deposit to keep users safe.

QR Pay moves real money to real merchants, so every user completes identity verification once before the first deposit.

## When you verify

* **Per wallet.** Each Fizen wallet completes its own verification.
* **Per device.** Using QR Pay on a new phone means verifying again on that device. It is a short process, and it stops someone who gets hold of your details from spending from another phone.

**1. Open QR Pay**

Select **QR Pay** on the home screen. If verification is outstanding, the app takes you straight there.

**2. Submit your document**

Follow the prompts with a valid identity document and a selfie check. Make sure the photos are sharp and the whole document is in frame.

**3. Wait for the result**

Once verification passes, deposit and start paying.

## What we check, and why

Every QR Pay user is verified, and every deposit is screened for transaction risk, money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions and fraud. Business partners go through their own checks. These checks protect your balance, keep the merchants we serve able to accept payments, and are set out in section 11 of the [Fizen QR Pay Terms](https://docs.fizen.io/fizen-qr-pay.md).

## Your home country

Verification also sets your home country, and that matters because QR Pay is for cross border use. You cannot pay merchants in your own country, so residents of Vietnam cannot use QR Pay inside Vietnam and residents of the Philippines cannot use it inside the Philippines. Both can use it while travelling elsewhere.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In Latin America, where QR Pay is coming next, the feature will be open to everyone including residents.
