### Regional exceptions

<Warning>
  Some models sold in certain regions ship **without eSIM** even though the global model supports it:

  * **Apple:** no eSIM on devices from Mainland China. Devices from Hong Kong & Macao have no eSIM except iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, SE 2020, and XS.
  * **Samsung:** no eSIM on devices from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan; no eSIM on FE models except S23 FE / S24 FE; no eSIM on USA models of S20, S21, and Note 20 Ultra. In South Korea, only S24, S23, Z Fold 5/4, Z Flip 5/4, and A54 5G support eSIM.
  * **Google:** no eSIM on Pixel 3 from Australia, Taiwan, Japan, or US/CA carrier models (except Sprint & Google Fi); no eSIM on Pixel 3a from Southeast Asia or Verizon.
  * **Oppo / Realme:** eSIM is mainly supported on Japanese and specific international models.
  * **Sony:** Xperia 10 IV supports eSIM in Europe only.

## Carrier lock check

Even with eSIM hardware, a **carrier-locked** phone can't install international eSIMs.

* **iOS:** Settings → General → About → **Carrier Lock**. It must say **No SIM restrictions**.
* **Android:** Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → **Network operators** → turn off "Select automatically". If other networks appear and can be selected, the phone is likely unlocked.

If your phone is locked, contact the carrier you bought it from to unlock it.
